PTTC and KGS Co-Sponsoring First Annual Midcontinent Coalbed Methane Symposium

The North Midcontinent PTTC, Kansas Geological Survey and the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association are sponsoring the First Annual Midcontinent Coalbed Methane Symposium at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma, November 7-9, 2004.

The conference program will consist of presentations from individuals and companies that are on the leading edge of exploration and production of natural gas from coalbeds in the midcontinent. A short course and field trip will highlight the conference – both are optional.

On Sunday November 7, Dr. Shabah Mohaghegh will conduct a CBM short course – covering topics such as reserve calculations, producibility calculations and well testing. A course manual and associated software is included.

Monday’s conference agenda includes unconventional drilling, directional drilling, CBM reservoir simulation, CBM resources, well completion strategies, regulatory trends, and pipeline connections. A keynote speaker will address the attendees during lunch.

Tuesday’s field trip will be conducted by representatives from the Oklahoma Geological Survey and the Kansas Geological Survey. The trip will examine Middle Pennsylvanian age bituminous coal outcrops, and observe cleat patterns, coal quality, stratigraphy, and environments of deposition as related to CMB exploration.

Additional information and registration for the symposium can be accessed online at www.nmcpttc.org/CBM/index.html.
