PTTC’s Log Analysis October Workshops
The Log Analysis Crash Course has become an October tradition and this year is followed by a new workshop that applies the course principles in the affordable, user-friendly, log analysis package of PfEFFER. This is a great way to either learn or brush up on logs and log analysis in Kansas by taking either one or both of these two one-day workshop and also earn Professional Education credits.
“The Crash Course in Log Analysis” - October 14th
This course covers the basics of log analysis for estimations of porosity, fluid saturation, and productivity. Logging concepts and tool operations will be reviewed. Kansas log examples will be used throughout the day and participants will also be instructed in how to access logs, both paper and digital, over the Internet. Instructors – John Doveton & Dana Adkis-Heljeson.“The PfEFFER Log Analysis” - October 15 th
This year marks the tenth anniversary of PfEFFER, the popular Excel add-in log analysis package available from the Kansas Geological Survey (www.kgs.ku.edu/PRS/software). This workshop is designed both for existing PfEFFER users and for newcomers who would like to review the operations features in the context of a variety of Kansas reservoirs. Instructors will be Geoff Bohling and Bill Guy.
Both courses will be held at the Kansas Geological Survey in Lawrence, Kansas with a morning session of 9:00am – 12:00pm and afternoon program between 1:00pm - 4:30pm. A sandwich lunch will be provided, as well as refreshments for mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks. A course participant may elect to take either one or both of these courses, with a cost of $45.00 for one course, or $90.00 for both. Each course is offered for 6 hours of Professional Education credits.
Software-based November Workshop
North Midcontinent Region PTTC will sponsor a workshop, “Practical Petroleum Reservoir Characterization and Modeling Using Free Web-based Software Tools and Data” slated for November 16, 2004, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Kansas Geological Survey, Hambleton Auditorium, West Campus, Lawrence, KS. Web software tools will be demonstrated through a hands-on, step-by-step analysis of a case study utilizing Atoka/Morrow sandstone reservoirs in Minneola Field, Clark County, Kansas.
Participants will perform basic reservoir analysis and create simple models. Downloading results into commercial spreadsheet and mapping packages will also be demonstrated. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops with wireless networking capability. The workshop fee is $50.00 including snacks and lunch. For more details on the workshop please see the brochure and agenda on the website at: http://www.kgs.ku.edu/Gemini/Workshop/11162004/

Unconventional Gas Resources, Subject of January 2005 Workshop
The North Midcontinent region of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council will sponsor the UnconventionalGas Resources of Kansas workshop at the Airport Hilton in Wichita, January 19, 2005.
Recently, Kansas has experienced the exploration for, and exploitation of, natural gas resources which previously were ignored, unnoticed, or uneconomical. These resources primarily exist in three regions; A) the most active area in the state, currently, is the coalbed methane play in eastern Kansas, primarily in the Cherokee Basin, B) the low-BTU gas Permian and Pennsylvanian reservoirs of Central Kansas – including the Chase carbonates, and C) the tight Niobrara chalk gas production in the extreme north-west corner of the state.
Topics discussed will include – geologic overview of resources, upgrading low-BTU gas, production characteristics, log analysis, and future potential.
The workshop fee of $50.00 covers admission to the event, meeting proceedings, refreshments, and lunch.
A registration form is available below. If you desire more information concerning the workshop, or wish information of obtaining exhibit space, please contact our office at (785)864-7398.
