Sixteenth Oil Recovery Conference Coming in April

The Tertiary Oil Recovery Project and the North Midcontinent Region of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council are co-sponsoring the Sixteenth Oil Recovery Conference on April 6-7, 2005 in Wichita, Kansas. All functions will be held at the Bank of America building at 100 North Broadway.

The program begins with the kickoff session on Wednesday evening, April 6 from 5:30 to 6:30. During this session attendees will experience 3-D visualization of geology, geophysics and petroleum engineering attributes related to Kansas oil and gas production (3-D glasses will be provided). This session will be followed by a social with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Wichita Petroleum Club.

The technical program starts Thursday morning, April 7 at 8:30 and covers a variety of topics pertinent to oil and gas production in the midcontinent. The following summarizes the technical program:

CO 2-Related Presentations

• Update on the CO 2 Pilot Project in central Kansas
• Monitoring the CO 2 Pilot Project using 4-D Seismic
• An Improved Method for Acidizing Oil Wells using CO 2

Polymer-Related Presentations

• Interactive Gel Polymer Treatment Website
• Selecting Polymer Treatment Candidates using Transient Testing

Other Improved Recovery Technologies

• Producing Shallow Heavy Oil using MEOR and Horizontal Fracturing
• Using Biosurfactants for Improved Oil Recovery
• Coalbed Methane Completion and Characterization.

The Department of Energy supported Stripper Well Consortium will be featured during Thursday’s luncheon session. Wrapping up the conference, three of the top independent producers in Kansas will participate in a panel session about “The Current and Future Role of Technology in the Exploitation of Kansas Oil Reserves.”
